Preservation Awards

Every year Historic Salem, Inc. invites community members to nominate recently completed renovation projects for a Preservation Award.  Awards for projects that have furthered the preservation efforts in Salem will be presented at Historic Salem’s Annual Meeting held in May. Properties throughout the city, not just in the historic districts, completed within the last five years are eligible for nomination.

Who is Eligible for a Preservation Award?

Each year (nominations open in February) Historic Salem asks the community to help us find the best examples of outstanding historic preservation projects throughout the City.  We celebrate projects from around the City and within all neighborhoods.

Projects must be compete (and finished within the last five years), advance the cause of preservation, and deserve recognition as being outstanding. Nominated projects can be private, public, or non-profit — residential or commercial — handcrafted or urban-scaled. Examples of the areas to take into consideration include:
  • High quality home renovations
  • Store front renovations
  • Hand-crafted fences, arbors, garden houses and other historic landscaping.
  • Stewardship and preservation that goes beyond normal maintenance requirements.
  • The work of life-long preservation advocates
  • Renewal of abandoned or disaster-struck historic properties
Register to attend the Nov. 22, 2021 Awards Ceremony

Congratulations to our previous Preservation Award winners
