HSI is launching a comprehensive campaign to fund our current renovations, a long-term capital fund for future maintenance at the Bowditch House. Doing so will allow the organization to continue to focus our efforts on acting as a stakeholder at the table when development threatens Salem’s identity and value as an exemplar of American history.
We have worked diligently to secure grant funds that are available for historic preservation projects like this and have received commitments for just over $100,000 in grants for the project. We are grateful to have this important preservation work recognized and funded in part by grantmakers: the Massachusetts Historical Commission, Salem’s Community Preservation Committee, and Preservation Massachusetts and the 1772 Foundation.
There is still more funding needed to complete the project underway and to help feed the maintenance fund for the future. Today, we ask for your help in securing the final $50,000 needed to get us to the finish line and get the maintenance fund off to a strong start. As we replace our roof and look to sustain HSI into the future thank you for considering a gift in support of Historic Salem’s preservation leadership.
Ultimately, your donation to Historic Salem, Inc. supports our mission to ensure that Salem's historic resources are preserved for future generations and that new development complements the historic character of the city.
